What to expect at our Sunday Services

newASinterior1a

Every Sunday, the All Souls Church Family gathers together at All Souls Langham Place. We meet for corporate worship that equips and motivates us for our daily worship in our workplaces, homes and neighbourhoods. While services might differ slightly at different times of year, we always seek:

  • to praise God together, in word and song, for his goodness and greatness
  • to pray to God together for his world, his church and for ourselves
  • to encourage, and be encouraged by, one another
  • to serve, and be served by, one another
  • to remember the death of Jesus Christ on the cross at regular Holy Communion services
  • to hear the Bible read and then taught, to equip us for the week ahead.

SueS-I - worldAll welcome...

People have many reasons for wanting to come to church: some have clear Christian beliefs. Others are not really sure what they believe, but are curious to know more about Christ and His relevance to life today. Others get dragged along by friends or are not even sure why they came at all! Whatever the reason, you are most welcome.

Week by week, hundreds of visitors come to All Souls. As an international congregation of over 60 nationalities, we are used to welcoming people from all over the world and regard it as a great privilege.

All our services are in English. But as a way of helping those for whom English is a second language, we have screens around the building showing the person speaking during the service, as well as the main points of all the sermons preached.

Service Styles

There is a relaxed formality to our services in the context of prayer and worship.

  • Music: Our music is extremely varied - ranging from services led by the 60+ member All Souls Orchestra and choir, to small contemporary music groups led from the guitar. Visit our music section for more information.
  • Length: Main services last around 75-80 minutes, including a sermon lasting around 25-30 minutes.
  • Participation: All the songs and words for corporate prayers are printed on service sheets and they also appear on the screens around the building. Bibles are provided in the seats.
  • The Bible: The Bible is central to all that we do - which is why teaching it faithfully has been a feature of All Souls' life for many decades. The preaching team unpacks Bible passages so we can grasp their meaning for the original hearers and also be equipped to live as God's people in today's world. These sermons are all recorded and are available as an online resource to download or receive as podcasts. Explore the All Souls online sermon library for more information.

SueS-I ASLP Waldegrave HallAfter Sunday Services

After the main Sunday services, there are plenty of reasons to stay around.
  • Prayer Ministry: we have a team of dedicated and mature Christian church members who are available to pray in confidence with anyone after every main service. Listen out for details during the service.
  • Refreshments: coffee, tea and biscuits are available downstairs in the Waldegrave Hall, giving the chance to meet with the church family more informally.
  • Resources and Media Centre : a wide selection of Christian books and other media are available for sale, downstairs in the Waldegrave Hall after each main service.
  • Finding out more information: flyers and other printed information about All Souls groups and events are available in various places after the service: the Information desk (downstairs in the main stair well, on the way to the Waldegrave Hall), Welcome Desk (upstairs, just before entering the main body of the church) and in the Rotunda (on your way out). At busy times of year, we also have a Welcome Area for newcomers, set up in the church building.
